Having a cuppa and thinking... about students and teaching

Once in a while I sit down, having a nice cup of tea and write... about life, Iaido and everything. So I thought I am going to share some thoughts with you, enjoy!

The student does not know, what it is, that the teacher is doing. But he likes it, he is tempted, moved. He wants to be like the teacher.

Now the student wants you to become his teacher. He trusts you, wants to learn, wants to be with you. He wants to have that something, that he saw in you. He is impressed and wants to impress others, he wants to be special.

But you know, that’s not the truth, you know what he thinks. Don’t forget, you have been a student once yourself. Your own teacher helped you to become what you are know. He was your teacher and now you have to be the teacher. This is your way of saying thank you. This is your way of paying back your dept.

And your student now has to learn the technique, step by step. He has to endure one correction after the other. Cheer him up, support him, more at the beginning, then less and less. Your student wants to be like you, wants to become you, but that’s not how it should be and it is your responsibility to ensure that he
will not become you.

He must find himself, not you! He has to develop himself, train himself. He has to trust himself and trust in his abilities, he must not trust in you.

Many students suffer and the enjoy suffering. They lament about problems, but you have to let them suffer. They have to learn, that nothing but training helps.

Laughing is your greatest supporter. Laugh about yourself, your students, your being and enjoy training as well as life.

Laughing helps

Whatever people say I am not.
Laughing helps. LOL. Smiling
If seriously, I guess, that your students will get sometime the difference between "to imitate", "to follow" and "to learn the best from the teacher but keep the own way".
Anyway, I've got thinking what I am looking for in Iaido

Wrong you still are a student no matter how high you rise through the ranks. The higher you climb the more you realise that you don't know.
